Preparing for Winter

…or just want to keep it looking good during the winter – it is important to attend to routine maintenance. Here’s a to-do list.
Tend to the landscaping: Clear away leaves and debris. Prune overgrown shrubs and trim any tree branches that overhang the roof. Fertilize and reseed the lawn.

Touch up window frames and fences: Look for spongy wood and peeling paint; then repair, sand and re-paint.

Clean the gutters: Gutters need to be cleared regularly through the autumn months to prevent wood rot and the possibility of damage from water over-flows.

Sweep chimneys: This job should be done annually.

Seal doors and windows: Re-caulking gaps around doors and windows prevents water damage and insulates against drafts.
